Friday Night SmackDown results for 4/30/2010

4 days after the 2010 Draft, the new faces of SmackDown made their first impact on their new home. Meanwhile, Outgoing Raw Superstars made one last appearance before moving onto Monday Nights. We saw two SmackDown vs. Raw matches, as well as a reunion, of sorts... and lots of knockouts.

Kofi Kingston def. Chris Jericho
2 years ago, Kofi Kingston was drafted to Raw from ECW. In his first match for the Raw brand, at Night of Champions, Kingston defeated Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship. Fast forward to now. Kingston was drafted to SmackDown and Jericho was drafted to Raw. Tonight, they had a SmackDown vs. Raw match, and although it seemed Jericho was primed to win, history repeated itself as Kingston hit the Trouble in Paradise out of nowhere to win the match.

Chavo Guerrero had been a staple of SmackDown in the past. Apparantly, after much embarrassment on Raw, he looks to make that impact again on Friday nights. Kane, however, had other ideas. The Big Red Monster, who has had history with Guerrero, chokeslammed Chavo and welcomed "The Mexican Warrior" back to SmackDown.

Cody Rhodes def. John Morrison
In his first match since getting punted by Randy Orton at WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes, now a SmackDown Superstar, took on outgoing Raw Superstar John Morrison. This was their first ever meeting, and in the hotly contested match, Cody Rhodes connected with the Cross Rhodes out of nowhere to win the match, and make a good impression on his new brand.

Edge came out to address the crowd in what would be his last SmackDown appearance as a member of the blue brand. He told the fans how he loved them, thanked them, and how he had regrets leaving "his show". Before he could finish, his brother and best friend Christian came out to the ring. In what appeared to be an E&C reunion, SmackDown inbound Christian stood in the ring with Raw-bound Edge for the first time in years. After sharing some nostalgia, Christian called Edge a liar. Edge responded by saying Christian was absolutely right, that Edge didn't care about the fans, and that Raw better look out because he was back to his old controversial ways. Christian then said that Edge used everyone, including him, and that he wanted to see Edge vs. Christian instead of Edge & Christian. Edge declined, but proceeded to hit him from behind. Christian fought back, and almost connected with the Killswitch before Edge retreated. Backstage, Big Show confronted Edge about his actions, and knocked him out.

Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix & Kelly Kelly def. Michelle McCool & Layla
Beth Phoenix needed a new partner to face Team LayCool. She found her new partner in one of SmackDown's newest Divas: Kelly Kelly. The Glamazon and Kelly Kelly picked up the win after Kelly connected with her legdrop bulldog for the win.

Dolph Ziggler came to the ring to relish in his recent actions. In recent weeks, he has defeated some of the biggest, baddest Superstars with his Sleeper Hold, and should be proud. However, he has also put out Josh Matthews and, most recently, Hornswoggle with the same hold. Ziggler was equally proud of this as well, and it is obvious that Ziggler will do whatever it takes to make an impact on SmackDown. In the case of Hornswoggle, the little Superstar was recently drafted to SmackDown, and one can only hope we will see the leprechaun make a comeback, and even reunite with his father, Finlay.

Rey Mysterio & MVP def. CM Punk & Luke Gallows
Making his return to SmackDown as a result of the 2010 WWE Draft, MVP interrupted The Straight Edge Society, claiming that he was ‘saving” the WWE Universe from having to listen to them anymore. After going on an attack against the Society by himself, and paying for it, The Franchise Playa was joined in battle by Rey Mysterio. We then soon saw the fight turned into a tag team match. Mysterio and MVP ultimately overcame CM Punk and Luke Gallows with an explosive 619-305 combination. But after the bell, the masked man that helped C.M. Punk beat Mysterio last sunday, appeared again and launched another hit-and-run assault on the masked Superstar.

In the closing moments of the show, World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger gave a second State of the Championship address. He was then interrupted by SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long. Long introduced him to his new number one contender: SmackDown draft pick The Big Show. The Big Show had been knocking people out left and right all week, including 2 knockouts tonight to Edge and Jericho. Show addressed Swagger's resume, and suggested he add "early retirement" to the accomplishments, and knocked out the All-American American. Could we see a new World Heavyweight Champion in the near future?
