Friday Night SmackDown Results for 4/9/2010
Leading up to Extreme Rules, SmackDown started with the premise that a #1 contender for Jack Swagger's World Championship would be decided. However, Jericho and Edge's extreme fight got a little too extreme to decide a challenger.
World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger def. John Morrison (Non-Title)
Jack Swagger came out to the ring ready to fight. But first, he had something to say. He said that he deserves to be champion, and he claimed to be the greatest active athlete now that Shawn Michaels retired. He was then interrupted by John Morrison. The Friday Night Delight went on to make fun of Swagger's lisp and state that Swagger did not deserve to be a champion.
Last week, Shad Gaspard turned on his Cryme Tyme partner JTG after what could best be described as a quick and humiliating match. This week, he came out to the ring and said that it's not Cryme Tyme, it's "My Time". He then went on to say that JTG only got in his way, and when people get in your way, you need to get them out of your way and get what you rightfully deserve. JTG then ran out to the ring, looking for retribution. Unfortunately, the much larger Shad laid him out for his troubles.
Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre def. Matt Hardy (Non-Title)
It was a match that was supposed to happen last week. However, last week, McIntyre beat Hardy unconscious before the match could even begin. This week did not see an attack before the bell. The Intercontinental Champion simply picked up the mic and said he had nothing to say to the fans. So, we had a match this week. Matt Hardy put up a valiant fight, but eventually got beaten for the 3-count after a Future Shock DDT.
For the first time since WWE NXT began, CM Punk actually seemed interested in helping his Rookie Darren Young. His way of helping? Convert Young to the Straight Edge Society. At first, Young seemed to accept the idea and wanted Punk to "save" him. When it came time to shave the South Beach party boy's head, however, Young immediately backed out. In return, CM Punk led an atttack on Darren Young in hopes of forcing a Straight Edge conversion. Rey Mysterio had other ideas. He saved the Rookie from the clippers and stated that he accepts the challenge laid by Punk last week. He then promised to shave Punk's head and end the Straight Edge Society for good.
The Hart Dynasty def. The Dudebusters via submission
Caylen Croft and Trent Baretta are now known as The Dudebusters. In a rematch from Superstars last week, The Hart Dynasty beat Baretta and Croft once again when David Hart Smith locked the Sharpshooter on Trent Baretta.
Last week, Dolph Ziggler did what many couldn't hope to do. The young upstart from Hollywood, Florida beat The Great Khali by submission. After that match, Khali announced the hiatus he was going to take from the WWE. In an interview with Josh Matthews, Matthews asked Ziggler how it felt to put Khali to sleep. Well, Ziggler showed Khali exactly how it felt, by putting Matthews into the hold himself!
Edge vs. Chris Jericho (No Contest)
The main event match was supposed to determine Jack Swagger's opponent for Extreme Rules. Instead, the two Canadian veterans took it to the extreme themselves. The match went into the crowd, and all around the arena. While the crowd enjoyed the melee, there was no #1 contender at the end of the night.
